2004 Wrap-up
2004 was a great year for Team Jorge Gurgel loaded with many team competitions and advancements of individual careers in the MMA.
Jorge had a great start in 2004 in what looked like would
be an incredible year. Unfortunately, the last half of the year was beset by a
series of freak accidents that kept him out of the ring and away from a title
shot. Jorge not one to be deterred has continued his training regiment, halved
his recovery time from a broken hand, and is hungrier than ever to get back in
the ring. So don't expect anything less than a great showing from Jorge, when he
steps back into competition. Rich Franklin continued to improve his record,
pounding his way through 4 more opponents. Rich is very close to a well deserved
title shot in the UFC. Mike Patt continues to patiently wait for his title shot
in the FFC. Other MMA fighters continued to improve their records as well, one
of notable mention is Dan Swift frequently underestimated but, who's skills have
consistently frustrated the competition and surprised the crowds.
The schools and its students continued to grow rapidly in
2004. The competition teams continued their successful track record competing in
local, regional, and national jiu-jitsu and submission grappling events. Jon
Stutzman made black belt, while a series of students made brown belt.
The Muay Thai school has grown larger and its students
competed recently in Columbus. Looking forward to watching this group develop.
Check back in 2005 after we all make our new jiu-jitsu resolutions. There will be some exciting announcements made. Looking forward to a Great Year!
