2005 Year end Wrap-up
2005 has been a incredible year of accomplishments for individuals involved in Team Jorge Gurgel especially in the way of reaching personal goals and dreams. Many other unexpected things have happened as well, such as the wildly successful Ultimate Fighter Series on Spike TV, which has thrown the UFC into the mainstream, and launched Rich and Jorge into Superstardom. All of our schools have experienced incredible growth rates from new signups.
Rich Franklin became
the UFC Middleweight Champion!
- He is now regarded as one of the most well rounded fighters
in the UFC today.
- He was one of the coaches on Ultimate Fighter Season II
-Featured on Fox Sports Network in "Beyond the Glory"
-Successfully defended his title in dominate fashion against
a well rounded Nate Quarry.
Jorge Gurgel was
featured on the Ultimate Fighter Season II.
-Although hampered by a severe knee injury Jorge stuck it out
on the show, quickly becoming a national favorite.
-Many did not know he completely blew out his knee on the
show and had complete reconstructive surgery on it.
-Months of Rehab later Jorge's healing is nearly complete
- Jorge has signed a contract with the UFC and is slated
to be fighting in the Octagon this April!
Billy Rush who has
trained with Jorge & Rich for years has exploded onto the UFC scene this
year as well
- He has been conditioning UFC fighters Jeremy Horn, Joe
Riggs, Tim Sylvia, and Brad Imes at different times throughout the year and
we have heard his name mentioned frequently by these fighters.
Team Jorge Gurgel
-Team Jorge Gurgel represented in Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and
MMA Tournaments throughout the Midwest competing at all levels of the sport.
-Our MMA team has grown considerably this year and is filled
with numerous talented individuals.
-We continue to grow in size and strength allowing better
training and competition opportunities for all.
JG MMA Academy
-The main school in Middletown was reorganized under the name
JG MMA Academy from New
Generation Martial Arts to better
reflect what we do.
- We have added more equipment and classes throughout the
year
-Received National exposure due to TV shows and documentaries
- Updated the facilities
-Added a retail store for gear sales.
So what's in store for 2006?
Its hard to top 2005, but I believe it will get even better! More
competitions, belts and championships. More Growth which will mean more
opportunities for everyone involved in our organization.
Lastly Thank you to all those who have
dedicated so much of their time to making our organization what it is today!
Your kindness, blood, sweat, and tears is paying off!
Dec. 19- UFC Fighters in the House
Jorge may be in Brazil but that doesn't mean the school shuts down. Brad Imes, Joe Riggs, Tim Sylvia, & Mike Whitehead are all training here in Middletown for the next few days with conditioning coach Billy Rush.
Dec. 8- JG Seminar this weekend
Jorge will be hosting a Seminar in Beckley WV this weekend. (Sat Dec. 10) More Info
All classes at the Academy will be running as normal starting this Friday.
