ICE 36
Results It did not take long for Team Jorge Gurgel fighters Prince Mclean and Tommy “The Tooth” Hayden to prove their dominance this past Saturday night at the ICE 36 fight show. In front of a packed house at the Metropolis night club and in front of many of their JG teammates there to support them, Prince and The Tooth made short work of their opponents.
In the first pro fight of the night, Prince Mclean started his comeback trail after almost a year off from fighting and after a successful shoulder surgery. Prince, wearing the Team JG spandex shorts, looked long and lean as he awaited the bell to start the fight. There was no apparent ring rust for Prince. His stand up looked sharp as he put together some very nice combinations on his feet. Prince was taking his opponent apart on their feet but decided he wanted to get the fight to the ground, so he took it there. Prince took his opponent down with a lateral drop and ended up in mount. He rained down punches and some vicious elbows to his opponents head. His opponent rolled a little and Prince sunk in a triangle choke from the top then rolled to his back keeping his opponent in the triangle. It proved to be more than his opponent could handle and at the two minute mark into the first round his opponent tapped and the fight was over. Prince looked good in his fight and will be a handful for his future opponents.
In the next pro fight of the evening Tommy “The Tooth” Hayden took on a very cocky, brash opponent who wore a mask to the cage and did a back flip upon his entry. That was about as much excitement his opponent could manage to get from the crowd. Tommy dominated the fight from the get go. Tommy’s opponent tried a couple of Kung Fu movie type spinning back fists and spin kicks which did not come close to landing. In fact, on the spin kick his opponent lost his balance and fell to the ground, Tommy let him up and then began to work his opponent. Tommy put his opponent into the cage and using his wrestling back ground and brute strength took him to the ground. Tommy ended up in side body, pinning his opponent to the fence. Tommy trapped one of his opponents arms behind his body leaving his opponent open to an onslaught of unprotected shots. As Tommy’s corner man Dustin Hazelett told Tommy to start teeing off on him, his opponent verbally submitted before Tommy threw one punch. His opponent claimed he hurt his knee and the verbal submission surprised everyone in attendance including Tommy. Clearly, to all of us from JG, Tommy’s opponent knee he was defeated and wanted to get out of the fight before Tommy was able to do any serious damage. Tommy took the microphone from the announcer and apologized to the crowd for his opponent’s actions and went on to tell the audience he wanted to put on a good show for them but unfortunately because his opponent submitted before he began hitting him he was unable to do so. Tommy showed he was the superior fighter and won easily. There was a good sized crowd of JG team members at the fight to support our teammates. If you were not there you missed some exciting action. If you consider yourself a part of JG and are able to make it to a fight for one of you teammates I suggest you do. I know from experience it is always more fun fighting in front of the people you train with and who have helped you get ready for the fight. Congratulations go out to Prince and Tommy for their wins, they proved once again that team JG is a dominant team and a force to be reckoned with from the amateur fighters all the way to the top of the UFC.
