Fight Results
This past Friday, 26JUN09, Team JG had six fighters in action at the Grand Victoria Casino in Indiana. Tim Insley, Rich Thurston, "College" Chris Mierzwiak, Tommy "The Tooth" Hayden, Jon Meyer, and Jon Stutzman all fought Friday night. Insley started off the night for Team JG with a third round submission by rear naked choke in his first fight representing Team JG. Mierzwiak finished his opponent early in the first round by guillotine choke. Thurston won his fight early in the first round when his opponent claimed to have a rib injury and refused to continue the fight, that was Thurston's first pro fight and win. Hayden showed his skill as he picked apart his opponent on their feet. Hayden then decided to end the fight so he shot in, picked up his opponent, carried him back to his corner where Jorge Gurgel was waiting outside the cage to yell instructions, slammed him down and ended the fight with some ground and pound forcing the ref to jump in and finish the fight in the first round. Jon Meyer showed his ground dominance Friday night. After taking the fight to the ground Meyer smothered his opponent, mounted him, locked in a head and arm choke and finished the fight midway through the first round forcing his opponent to tap. In our only defeat of the night Jon Stutzman suffered a third round tko loss. It was a tough loss for Stutzman, who is our head jiu jitsu instructor, but he will be back and he has already assured me that he wants a rematch with the man who beat him and next time will be different.
Saturday, 27JUN09, two of Team JG Muay Thai students had their first Thai fights at the Metropolis night club. Matt Zilch won his fight by tko in the third round forcing the referee to stop the fight and Joe Richer won by knock out in the first round. Great job guys.
Sunday, 28JUN09, there was a charity amateur boxing event to raise money for the fight against cancer held at our gym. We had several Team JG boxing students fight throughout the day and they all won. Tyler Ray, Lane Bull, Kenzie White and Robby "The Headache" Malof each won with an unanimous decision.
Congratulations to everyone who competed representing TEAM JORGE GURGEL this weekend. Thank you to all of our wonderful students for going out to each of these events to support our school and our guys.
